Local people
from Mendip have been recognised by the Chairman of
Somerset County Council for their work in the community.
The
Chairman’s Awards for Service to the Community (2009)
recognise
individuals, partners and groups who have made a significant
contribution to
their local community.
Vicky Higgins was presented with an Award for Service to the Community in March.
"Vicky Higgins has been involved in all aspects of our Recreation Field
management for 11 years. As the Committee's chairperson, she continues
to give tireless service to improve and
maintain the facilities for all to enjoy. People are
generally unaware of the large amount of time she spends
every week looking after the building and
grounds. She started a Youth Club for local children which
continues to go from strength to strength. She is at the
heart of organising many community events to fund raise so the
Recreation field and the club house can continue to be enjoyed by
all. Vicky is a great motivator and instils enthusiasm in all
who work with her. She does all this on top of a busy and stressful
full time job. This is what makes Vicky special and deserving
of this recognition."
