LEIGH UPON MENDIP GOLDEN JUBILEE COMMITTEE

Minutes of the second meeting held at The Bell Inn, Leigh Upon Mendip.

7.30 p.m. Wednesday 20th February 2002.

1 The meeting was opened by the Chairman, John Phillips, there being no apologies for absence the minutes of the previous meeting, held on 7th February, were read and signed.

2 Matters arising

Treasure Hunt

Gill Baker told the Committee that she had spoken with the Organiser of the Treasure Hunt who had agreed in principle to it being held on the Sunday of the Jubilee Celebrations. The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the Fete Committee on 26th February.

Parish Magazine Entry

It was agreed that extra copies of the entry would be circulated to village households not receiving the Parish Magazine.

Celebrations by School

Pat Simpson had established that the school staff had nothing planned. The PTA had intimated that some form of celebration may take place but no firm decision had yet been made. Pat will liaise further.

Planting of Trees

John Phillips had spoken with Jan Robson of the Recreation Field Committee and had received a favourable response. It was suggested a meeting take place at The Rec to discuss further.

Sponsor a Seat

Steve Anderson told the committee that Somerset CC were meeting that day to consider funding. Following that meeting Linda Lyons (Asst. Lieutenancy Officer) (Tel No. 01823 356726) will be in touch.

Entertainment

The meeting was informed by June Wolstenholme that she was awaiting a firm reply in respect of the African Drum Workshop. If available on that date he would be pleased to attend but his expenses would have to be met. She was endeavouring to contact Damon concerning the organising of games etc.

Recreation Ground

The Rec has been booked for Jubilee celebrations for Monday 3rd June 2002, and further meetings will establish whether the bar can be made available.

A decision concerning events in the Village Hall and matters of commemorative gifts and tokens to the elderly were deferred.

Funds

Following examination of "Awards for All" Steve Anderson reported that our celebrations did not meet the parameters set out. He will attend the next Parish Council Meeting (5.3.02) in company with John Phillips to make an application for funding. They would also examine the possibility of approaching local companies for sponsorship.

Public Liability

Details of this matter should be established by the time the committee next meet.

Details of the Minutes have been placed on the Leigh Upon Mendip web site.

3 The committee decided that a further entry be placed in the Parish Magazine with fuller details in due course. The March magazine invites other organisations within the Village to participate and Gill Baker, when attending the Millennium Committee meeting would seek their support.

4 When it is established what games/races will take place we will work out what token prizes will be given (up to age eight?).

Pat Simpson was endeavouring to trace the village bunting.

5 PA System/music – John Phillips will make enquiries concerning this through Phil Davey.

6 The setting of priorities will be debated closer to the date of the celebrations.
