PROGRESS WITH COMMUNITY ACTIVITY PROJECT

ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE The telephone line has now been installed to the Recreation Field Building; we will have the internet connection soon and can then extend the digital/computing sessions.

RECYCLING – Old mobile phones and printer inkjet cartridges (not Epson) can now be recycled, reduce waste to landfill and raise money for CAP and the Leigh on Mendip First School.   Plans are developing well for a recycling facility for cardboard at the Recreation Feld carpark.  We are completing the registration process and hope to start by the New Year.

DANCE – do you want to dance and keep fit.  There was strong support in the Parish Plan for a regular dance club.  Plans are now well advanced for a taster 12-week dance session (probably salsa /contemporary). This will be supported by Mendip District Council

 – we hope to run these on Friday evenings at the Memorial Hall.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S PLAY – There was strong support in the Parish Plan for more facilities for young people. We have now gained funding for improvements to the playground area – additional safety bark, new swing cradles, a practice kick board and a large wooden train engine for the toddlers.   In addition we have money to start an 8-12 year old youth club in the Recreation Field building.  Parents and volunteers are needed, say once a month on rotation to help establish and run this for the younger people in the village.  We want to keep up the active theme and have purchased a large flat screen for the wall to support a Wii sports play game facility.  Other games and activities will follow.   VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - PLEASE COME TO A MEETING AT 7.30 PM ON 13 NOVEMBER AT THE REC. FIELD BUILDING TO OFFER SUPPORT AND IDEAS.
